I'm Lydia McCarthy, owner and dog training coach of Playful Pooches and Parents. I was certified through the Petsmart Certification Program in August, 2001. After teaching at Petsmart for a year, I decided to start my own classes.  I have had over 1000 dogs and owners come through my  classes, with over 90 different breeds and many 100's of mixed breeds.  I have also had challenging breeds such as pit bulls and wolf dogs.  I am an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and the AKC S.T.A.R Puppy Award. I have volunteered and worked  with many animal shelters including SPCA Cincinnati,  Sheltered Paws, Save the Animals Foundation, Faith Rescue, League for Animal Welfare, WolfCreek Habitat and Sanctuary, Cherished Cockers and Adopt a Dog. I love dogs and have eight of my own.

Welcome to Playful Pooches and Parents, dog coaching/training classes for dogs and their owners.  I teach a "levels" based class format which means you work through different levels of skills at you and your dog's own pace. I teach so much more than just dog training. We work on pack leader skills, relationship building, understanding and communicating with your dog, and so much more. And most of all we have fun. Dogs and owners look forward to my classes each week.
